TEPCO Energy Museum Renewal Project
It is a renewal project for 20 years old TEPCO Energy Museum. Its 1st and 2nd floors need to be re-constructed as a new interface with changing Shibuya publics. LED lighting wall is introduced as a new media, interacts with visitors as they move around the entrance hall, the images correspond to it. At the same time, the facade is completely renewed with no frame glazing walls in order to increase maximum transparency of its accessibility.
'Urban Screen Saver' we call the LED display system. Each dot of LED is composed of 9 diodes, 3 red, 3 green, and 3 blue and there are 1088 dots, 32 dots vertical and 34 lines horizontal and in total nearly ten thousand diodes create more than twenty thousand colors. The density, or dpi, of the image is intentionally lowered to make it appear rather as lightings than information screen. When you are close inside the space, it appears as an environmental installation of moving lights. And when you are away outside the building, the moving images get focused to be recognizable.
This Urban Screen Saver is set against circular stairs and an entrance hall in front is glazed with DPG system and glass mullion with highly transparent glass. This make the LED screen appears as a moving facade of Shibuya city, producing new relationship to the information, lighting and the city.

Information center on 2nd floor. Spots lights are set inside of slits of ceiling so as not to feel like 'spots beam'.

'Urban Screen Saver' also reacts to sound of streets of outside and looks like pictures from equalizer.

Presence Detection Sensors are installed so that this Urban Screen Saver also reacts to human movement.
